No,I was content to watch the water and the ships. Just south of my Gramma's & Grampa's trailer park (as they were
called back then), Mobile estates today,is Fort Gratiot Park, where there stands, to this day, the oldest light on the lakes.
This lighthouse still holds a special place in my heart. When it was time for me to go to bed it became a kind of....babysitter. I would try to count the times the green rotating beacon would light up my bedroom. I would go happily to sleep, hearing the waves wash upon the beach and the wash of propellers as the ships went up into the lake from the St. Clair river.
Later in life I had to move away from the lakes, in order to join the U.S.Coast Guard and served aboard the Search And Rescue or S.A.R. cutter, Cape Cross WPB-95321 in Gloucester Mass. in the mid 70's In all this time I never lost my love of the Lights of the Great Lakes.I collect miniatures and pictures of the lights, and try to be an active part of the preservation of these grand testiments of Michigan maritime history.
Now, in civilian life, I still have that long ago and far away memory of those times of my childhood. Now in my 40s I met a gal on the web and found we had a lot of the same interests,my life has gone through a lot of changes since I was a boy, however after meeting Kelly I decided to move to beautiful central Oregon and start anew, she and I are both beginning our lives together anew, and I am happy with our new relationship.
Thank you for visiting my page, and if there are any questions you may have, about the lighthouses, I will do my best to get the answers for you.
